Tobacco Caye Lodge - Tobacco Caye, Belize

Image of Tobacco Caye Lodge on Tobacco Caye

Tobacco Caye Lodge sits on the largest piece of property on the island. The property stretches from the eastern, reef side of the island to the western side. The accommodations here consist of three cabins, which are split into two separate units, for a total of six rooms. Each of the rooms have a pair of double beeds with ceiling fans and were nice, clean, and had plenty of natural light. The units look out over the reef, which is ideal because this is also the "windy" side of the island, and as such there is a nice breeze that keeps the rooms cool. There is also a hammock on the porch of each unit. All of the units have private baths, with hot water.

The meals here are included on the cost of the accommodations and are served family style in a restaurant that sits in the middle of the property; ideal for hearing the meal bell no matter where you are.

In addition there is a thatched beach bar on the western side of the island, near the dock that serves up cold Beliken's and some very tasty rum drinks.

As a rare bonus in the islands, Tobacco Caye Lodge also has wireless internet available.

Reviewer's Note: We ended up staying here when we visited Tobacco Caye, and continue to return here. Tobacco Caye Lodge is currently run by Barbara, a Canadian, who has leased the resort from the original owners and is very friendly has always been responsive to our inquires and questions. The hot water was hit or miss depending on if you were competing against someone else in another unit also taking a shower at the same time, but this is fairly typical for accommodations in the keys. The food was delicious, and the rest of the staff was excellent.
